Ben Stein
Actor, Comic, Economist, Lawyer, Teacher, Novelist, Financial Expert, Journalist, Political Commentator & Renaissance Man
Ben Stein is probably the closest any man comes these days to being a true renaissance man. His financial and economics work was cited in the efforts of the recent Nobel prize winner in Economics, George Akerlof. He was also the host of the long running comedy quiz show on Comedy Central, Win Ben Stein's Money, a show that has won seven Emmys. He has written hundreds of thousands of words about financial fraud and investment policy, but two words made him a household name: "Bueller" and "Anyone, anyone?"
An extremely well known actor in movies, TV, and commercials, he is perhaps most notorious for his part of the boring teacher in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. That cameo was recently ranked as one of the 50 most famous scenes in American film.
He has written novels that the New York Times describes as "stunning," but what you have probably heard him talk about recently are "dry eyes, red eyes, and clear eyes." He worked and demonstrated and struggled for voting rights for African Americans, and he also was a speech writer for Richard Nixon and for Gerald Ford. He introduced the world to complex concepts of the politics of culture, but he also introduced the world to Jimmy Kimmel and made possible The Man Show. Stein can be seen regularly as a financial commentator for the Fox News Channel. [more...]

I have been to many conferences over my 20+ year career, and your speech at the Broadmoor was the best after dinner speech I have ever heard - entertaining and educational - particularly on a personal level.

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your presentation during FPA Denver this past Sunday. I found your talk equally humorous, insightful, and inspiring. It was a terrific way to kick off a first class convention.

Your balance of humour and serious commentary struck just the right balance... you are the first person I ever met to find humor in a subject like epitaxial deposition!

I just wanted to thank you once more for the terrific time that we had with you last Monday up here in Marquette. You were a genuinely interesting person to converse with and that cannot be said of a lot of the speakers we've had up here. Some have had massive egos or a total lack of personality; can't say that with you. You were a total class act.
