Bilingual Comedian, Show Host & Writer
Sylvain Larocque is one of Canada's fastest rising comedic stars. His versatility as a performer enables him to work in many ways. He can be an endearing host, an entertaining stand-up and can also write hilarious comedic material. On top of that he is one of the very few bilingual comedians in the country and can make anybody laugh regardless of their culture and mother tongue. This business school graduate combines his scholastic endeavors with his extensive knowledge of the corporate world and adapts his act in order to please even the most demanding audiences.
For some comics, the road to fame is anything but straight. This was the case for Sylvain Larocque, who graduated with a major in Chemistry from McGill University and then pursued another degree in marketing and management at the well-known business school, HEC. After these twists and turns, who would have foreseen a career in comedy?
His one man-show, Tueur à gags, has already been released on DVD. He has starred in his own television series, C'est mon Show!, appeared on the big screen in Camping Sauvage and performed on stage in the comedy Ladies Night and Mars et Vénus. Over the years, Larocque has also been a regular at Just For Laughs comedy festivals and galas (15 appearances) and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. His other TV appearances include "The Best of Montreal Comedy Showcase" and his own prime-time special on CBC's critically acclaimed series Comics! He has participated in shows with some of Canada's most renowned musical acts including The Crash Test Dummies and The Barenaked Ladies.
Sylvain Larocque is a 5 time "Comedy writer of the year" award-winner in Quebec and also the recipient of the Gemini Award for best comedy writing.
Perfectly bilingual (Engish/French) he can switch from one language to the other seamlessly. This ability has enabled him to entertain and please audiences from coast to coast.
Even with these public successes, writing is still his favourite pastime. Larocque has written for many comics. He was the head writer for all the Grand Rire Bleue galas in Quebec City one year, has written a documentary series, written and starred in a play from February 2005 until this season. Currently, Larocque teaches writing at the "École Nationale de l’Humour".
Larocque uses his extensive knowledge of the corporate world and adapts his act in order to please the most demanding audiences. Rhythm, quality writing and impeccable timing are what make him one of the most sought-after comedic performers in the country today.
