3 Ways to Lead Yourself Through Change in a Fast-Paced and Technological Workplace

There is no question that we are moving faster, that we are more bombarded with information than ever before and that technology is streamlining the way we work and play. At times it can seem as if we could spin off out of control and never find our way back. Well, I have good news- even though time is speeding up and we are faced with more technology we have the power and the control to decide HOW we are going to lead ourselves through it.

Here are 3 ways to lead yourself through change in these turbulent times:

#1– Heighten your self awareness- even if you consider yourself very self aware I would challenge you to check in on this one. With fast times and faster technology we need to be ‘tuned in’ to how we are responding to our environment more so than ever before. Take a moment to notice when you are feeling overwhelmed and ask yourself, Why?

#2- Challenge yourself to learn- rather than fight technology or fight how fast everyone seems to be going what if you were to ‘flow’ with it? Get rid of the stress of ‘not knowing’ and put your ego aside to ask for support. Approach someone who is highly capable at technology and ask him or her to help you learn it and understand it better. Do not hide from the reality that technology is pervasive in our society accept that it is our new reality and we must ‘go with it’.

#3– Share without ego- if we were to ask a group of people what they are most afraid of right now I would guess many would say, “of the unknown future” or “keeping up with the changes”. We have zero control over the future but we do have control over today. The more we share what we know with others the less fear we have and the more collaboration we create. If your ego says that you have been on your job for a long time and you don’t need to learn anything new then you SHOULD be afraid for the future. The same is true if you are new to the job with lots of technical knowledge but little knowledge of the history or experience of your established co-workers and you think you are superior- that’s ego!

I have always been a person who likes to have a certain future, I have thought in the past that I can control my future but I have learned through my work, through meditation and yoga that the only thing I truly control is my own reality!
