Joyce Drohan's Bio
Joyce Drohan helps leaders move artificial intelligence from promise to practice. An AI and technology strategist with more than 25 years of experience as a global C-suite executive and management consulting partner, she has led large-scale technical transformations in government, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and professional services on both sides of the Atlantic. Her presentations give executives, boards and public servants a clear view of what AI can realistically deliver, what it takes to scale, and how to manage the risks along the way.
In 2023 Drohan joined the Government of Ontario, where she became the province’s first Chief AI & Technology Officer. Serving an Ontario Public Service of more than 60,000 employees, she led the mandate to develop Ontario’s first AI Strategic Framework, with the goal of industrializing AI across the province.
Before joining government, she was the first Global Chief Data Officer, Global Head of Data and Global Senior Vice President at Sanofi. There she drove an AI-first approach to data across the enterprise and founded the company’s Global AI Centre of Excellence in Toronto, creating hundreds of high-tech jobs for Canadians. Earlier she was a Partner at Deloitte, leading Clients & Industries for Healthcare and Life Sciences within Omnia AI, Deloitte Canada’s artificial intelligence practice. Before that she was Managing Director for AI Strategy at PwC, advising C-suite clients on growth and transformation. +
A dual Canadian and British citizen, Drohan served as Senior Advisor and National Director with the UK Government. In that role she helped lead one of the largest healthcare transformations in the world, which reduced National Health Service spending by £20 billion while maintaining and improving quality during the European economic downturn. Her career began in life sciences, where she spent more than a decade in marketing leadership at AstraZeneca.
Her work has earned recognition as one of the Top 30 Global Chief Data Officers, a Top Global Data Innovator and one of the Top Global 100 Women in Data. She also serves on the CDO Magazine Global Editorial Board. She has spoken for The Economist, The Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star and VivaTech, and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Westminster, the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University.
